Two Young Sri Lankan Girls Join Global Space Mission

TWO YOUNG SRI LANKAN GIRLS JOIN GLOBAL SPACE MISSION

Sri Lanka is celebrating another inspiring achievement in science and space education as young Sri Lankan girls take part in the international Mission ShakthiSAT programme. 🇱🇰🚀

The initiative brings together talented young girls from around the world to learn about space science, satellite technology, engineering and STEM while working towards the development of satellites.

According to information circulating about the Sri Lankan participants, Musna Mubaraq from Al-Mubarak National College, Malwana, and Muhammad Nizam Noori from Kinniya Muslim Women's College are among the young Sri Lankans connected with the programme. Public social-media references also identify Musna Mubarak with the ShakthiSAT Phase II programme. (Facebook)

What is Mission ShakthiSAT?

Mission ShakthiSAT is a global space-education initiative led by Space Kidz India, bringing together approximately 12,000 girls from 108 countries.

The programme aims to introduce young women to areas such as:

🚀 Space science

🛰️ Satellite technology

💻 Coding and electronics

🔬 Scientific research

⚙️ Spacecraft engineering

🌙 Lunar exploration

👩‍🔬 STEM careers

🌎 International scientific collaboration

The organisers describe the programme as an effort to give girls practical exposure to satellite development and encourage the next generation of women in science and technology. (Mission ShakthiSAT)

From the Classroom to Space Technology

One of the most exciting aspects of ShakthiSAT is that students are not simply learning about space from textbooks.

Selected participants take part in training and practical activities involving satellite systems, payload development, assembly, integration and testing. The second phase of the programme brought selected participants together in India for hands-on activities and international STEM collaboration. (Web India News)

The programme's broader satellite effort includes a planned Low Earth Orbit satellite, while another part of the initiative is focused on a future lunar mission. (One Online)

A Proud Moment for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has been participating in the ShakthiSAT initiative through its local STEM and youth-development activities. Recent reporting confirmed Sri Lankan representation in the programme, with students selected through competitive processes involving STEM education. (EconomyNext)

The achievement is particularly meaningful because it shows that Sri Lankan students can participate in international science and technology programmes alongside young people from around the world.

For students watching from Sri Lanka, stories like these demonstrate that careers in astronomy, aerospace engineering, physics, computer science and space technology are not just distant dreams.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Space exploration requires much more than astronauts. Scientists, engineers, programmers, mathematicians, medical researchers, designers and technicians all contribute to successful space missions.

Programmes such as ShakthiSAT can therefore provide students with an early introduction to the skills needed for the rapidly growing global space sector.

Musna Mubaraq and Fathima Noori's reported involvement is a wonderful reminder to Sri Lankan students that big dreams can begin in an ordinary classroom.

Congratulations to these young Sri Lankan talents, their families, teachers and schools. 🇱🇰❤️

May their journey inspire many more Sri Lankan girls to look towards the stars, choose STEM and dream even bigger. 🚀🌙

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Dr. Mohamed Fazul Jiffry, PhD – JP, for providing sponsorship, support, encouragement and guidance to help make this rare international opportunity possible for these young students.

A meaningful investment in education today can become a giant leap for the future of Sri Lankan girls in STEM and space technology.

How Does a Satellite Get Into Space?

A satellite is a spacecraft designed to operate in orbit around Earth or another celestial body. A rocket carries the satellite upward and gives it enough speed to enter its intended orbit.

For example, ISRO's Gaganyaan programme involves a human-rated version of the LVM3 rocket and requires extensive testing of launch systems, crew safety systems, life support and other technologies before human spaceflight. (ISRO)

A CubeSat is a small, standardized satellite format commonly used for education, research and technology demonstrations. Small satellites allow students and researchers to gain practical experience in spacecraft development without the enormous scale of traditional spacecraft programmes.
