A Uyghur woman who was a former detainee in China's concentration camps and now fled to Sweden recently spoke to Al Jazeera and spoke about her experiences. Sayragul Sautbay still suffers from nightmares and flashbacks of humiliation and violence endured while she was detained.
She also spoke about how every Friday which is a sacred day for Muslims, they were forced to eat pork meat. They intentionally chose this day and those who refused would get punished. She added that the policy was designed to inflict sham ena dguilt on the Muslim detainees.
Other documents made available to aljazeera and state approved news articles show these is an active effort to expand and promote pig farming in Xinjiang which is a Muslim region. in November 2018 Xinjiang's top administrator said that the autonomous region would be turned into a "pig-raising" hub.
A news article published in May by Zenz describes a new farm in Kashgar area which aims to produce 40,000 pigs ever year. This isn't just about the farming of pigs. This is just another move in erasing the identity, the culture, and the religious values of the Uyghur Muslims.
