Israel Has Taken More Palestinians Captive Than It Has Released Since It Paused Bombing Gaza

ISRAEL HAS TAKEN MORE PALESTINIANS CAPTIVE THAN IT HAS RELEASED SINCE IT PAUSED BOMBING GAZA

Last week, Israel finally agreed to a short, temporary pause on bombing Gaza and to release 150 Palestinian civilians in exchange for Israelis. But since Friday morning, Israel has already taken another 168 Palestinians captive, according to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club. That means that Israel is actually unjustly imprisoning even more Palestinians than it was before the pause of its bombardment on Gaza.

Since Israel temporarily stopped bombing Gaza on Friday, Israeli soldiers have continued to wreak havoc on Palestinian communities. On Friday, just hours after Israel’s pause on bombing Gaza went into effect, Israeli soldiers shot at Palestinians attempting to return to their homes in northern Gaza, killing 2 and wounding 11. In the West Bank, Israeli soldiers killed 7 Palestinians between Saturday and Sunday, 4 of whom were children. Hundreds of the Palestinians taken captive by Israel in the past 7 weeks have been imprisoned without charge or trial.

No one should be abducted by a foreign military while inside their own neighborhood and illegally imprisoned without charge or trial. No one should be killed on their own land simply because of who they are.

Palestinians need a true and permanent ceasefire now. A ceasefire that stops Israeli soldiers from killing Palestinians inside their own neighborhoods. A ceasefire that doesn’t postpone the massacres of entire Palestinian communities, but stops them permanently.
