Residents of Nishat in Jammu & Kashmir on Wednesday claimed to have been told by local police to evacuate their houses in 15 days as they are ‘illegal encroachers’ of land. This is from just this week but this has been happening for a long time.
The old lady in the picture, Zooni Begam, I came across her from an article from December 2020. She along with dozens of other who were living in the forest areas were also told their homes were illegal and they had to leave.
Zooni Begam said, "Where will we go at this age, after living here for 150 years?” Zooni said. “My father was more than 100. I remember the names of my great-grandfathers, too, who lived here.” Her family for generations lived there before the creation of the Indian state. But like Israel does, she's being kicked out of her own home.
I don't know what's happened to her since December, if anyone has an update feel free to let me know. India wants to replace the Muslim population with Hindus.
Recently I came across another article where an Indian government website declared that the 97% Muslim populated Kashmir region was "predominantly hindu". This isn't a mistake, but this is their goal.
Just as we pray for Palestinians living under occupation, pray for the people of Kashmir too who are often forgotten and the world is cut off from them. Keep those suffering across the Ummah in your duas.
