PACHCHA MARIKKAR ONE OF THE MUSLIM ADMIRALS WHO ARRIVED WITH KUNJALI MARIKKARS FORCES TO FIGHT

This tombstone belongs to Pachcha Marikkar, and it is situated in Malwana. He was one of the Muslim admirals who arrived in Sri Lanka from Kerala with Kunjali Marikkar's forces to fight alongside King Rajasinghe II of Seethawaka, against the Portuguese.

He is one of thousands of Muslims throughout history who gave his life to preserve the independence of this country.
We as a nation are so focused on the differences that divide us, that we fail to see what we have in common, and we fail to see that we as a nation have the same problems that we must unite to find a solution to.

Everyday, the Sri Lankan rupee depreciates against the US dollar, and our economy is in shambles. We are in the midst of a global pandemic, and there are hundreds of plagues that ail us-- both metaphorical and literal.

Until we use our resources to understand each other, to solve our problems as brothers and sisters under one roof, until then, we will continue to do our ancestors the grave disservice of living as prisoners when they fought so hard for us to be free, of plunging this country into even greater dangers than they ever fought.
