The Association of Public Health Inspectors has announced that the cremation of the bodies of Muslims who died in the Cowid 19 outbreak has been suspended.
The Secretary of the Public Health Inspectors' Association, M. Jayasinghe, has informed the Colombo Municipal Council to suspend the cremation of corpses which have not been approved for cremation by relatives. Balasuriya told the Colombo Gazette website.
He also said that the forcible burning of janazas has been stopped based on a decision taken at a recent meeting with Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
At the request of the Prime Minister, a panel of experts from the Ministry of Health has informed the Colombo Municipal Council to suspend the process until further notice.
Dr. Hemantha Herath, Deputy Director of Health Services, said that the Ministry of Health has proposed the idea of burying the bodies of Muslims who die of tuberculosis in concrete pits.
According to the Colombo Gazette, 9 Janasas have been kept in the morgue till today, Monday.
Out of a total of 20 janazas that were not allowed to be cremated by relatives, 11 janazas were burnt, the report said.
It is noteworthy that the Janaza, which was forcibly cremated without the consent of the family, included a 20 days old baby and a Janaza.
